It’s the collector’s paradox: reaching the goal of completing a collection means an end to the thrill of unearthing that rare piece.
Collector James Kaufman has avoided this dilemma through Dedham Pottery, the unique crackle-glazed pottery made in Dedham from 1896 to 1943. Because the pottery was never fully documented, there is always the potential of being surprised by an unusual or experimental find.
Kaufman’s fascination with the pottery began when he saw his first piece 17 years ago. “I became captivated by the crackle glaze,” he said.
